Saskatchewan is getting another major mine. Foran Mining has announced a series of developments, including Board approval to develop the project in the Flin Flon area, as well as significant new funding arrangements to make it happen.
The mine and associated mill will produce copper, gold and zinc with an estimated cost in the neighborhood of a three-quarters of $1 billion for Phase One adding further to the capital investment strengths the provincial economy has shown in the past few years.
Foran has been exploring the region for a while and has already built a ramp leading underground to the mineral deposits. It continues to explore in the immediate area, adding further reserves to its known and inferred inventory.
Touted as the world’s first carbon neutral copper mine, the firm also announced it will purchase electric vehicles for its underground work as it looks to capture federal tax credits and climate change incentives. It also plans to build a permanent camp with capacity for nearly 300 workers.
The company expects to begin production in the first half of 2026.
