We’ve been here before so we’re going to find somethings that are new.
That’s gist of a message from business advisor Rick McPartlin but it is pretty much a universal one these days. We’re about to see a provincial government issue half a budget – just the expenditure side. That’s new. We’re going to find out about the validity of thousands of us working from home.
For those in leadership positions who listen carefully, there will be some lessons as well.
When we studied LEAN practises, for example, we were schooled on how front line workers know their workspaces better than anyone so we should draw upon that knowledge to improve workflows.
No doubt this will be happening again in the days to come. Everyone – from the most senior person in an organization to those at front line – will be experiencing something new as we embrace social distancing. Creating mechanisms to capture those lessons – to create a new array of Best Practises – will not only lead to innovation in the way we deliver services in the next few weeks but in the future when COVID restrictions have been lifted.
