With the deadline for 2023 income tax filing upon us, we now have some fresh data on how we did a year earlier in 2022. And it turns out Saskatchewan may hold the best cards in the country.
StatsCan has determined that the median income – after taxes – in Saskatchewan in 2022 was $72,100. The median is the line where half the population is above and the other half below. In Saskatchewan, it was the same as 2018 but lower than 2020 and 21. Part of the reason for the shifting around was how federal COVID money impacted income levels.
Compared to other provinces, we were in third place on the median after-tax income scale. Alberta and Ontario had bigger numbers but when you compare the cost of things such as housing in Ontario or Alberta, Saskatchewan probably has the best income-to-expense ratio in the land. In other words, your money goes farther here than just about anywhere.
At $71,000, we are above the national average, ahead of even BC.
