One of the tools available to help us track changes in our population is in the monthly labour force or jobs report.
It estimates the growth or decline of the universe of working-aged people in the Saskatchewan. In April, it was up – a further sign that people are moving here in search of opportunity as our economy led the nation in expansion last year.
The number of people with a full-time job in April rose by 3,400 – half of all the growth we saw in that category in the past year. So, it would appear we are gaining momentum. Total employment gains in the past year in Saskatchewan now sit at 6,000.
One of the reasons we could fill that many full-time spots was the expanding workforce. It grew by a thousand in the month.
The biggest gain in employment was found in health care and social services in April – pointing to the success the province has been experiencing in recruiting workers abroad and with financial incentives, especially for locating in regional settings.
