New vehicle sales up in Saskatchewan during Q1 2024

The first quarter of this year showed some positive signs for those in the new vehicle business in this province.

First it was COVID that got in the way of you and I using our cars and trucks when recreational driving was all but shut down for an extended period. And then came higher interest rates which prompted us to hold on to the older, less-used vehicles rather than buy new.

So, for those who operates new vehicle sales lots, a bit of good news is a welcomed event. And we may have it.

Sales figures for the first three months of this year are fairly vibrant compared to what’s been happening in recent years. Because this is a seasonal business, it is best to compare this month or this quarter to the same period a year ago.

What we see is a strong improvement in 2024 compared to the first three months of last year with roughly 10 per cent more vehicles leaving dealer lots this year. Virtually all the gains were seen in truck and SUV sales.
