Here’s another market segment where Saskatchewan and the Prairies in general are outperforming the rest of Canada — housing.
A new report from the economics unit at TD Canada Trust singles out this region saying that prices here are holding better than other provinces and we should stay in the lead through the rest of this year and into 2024 as in-migration heats up the marketplace.
The bank notes that not only have prices held their own across the Prairies while other regions, especially in major centres such as Toronto and Vancouver, are coping with falling home priced, but we have a tight market that is putting upward pressure on pricing.
They note we are on the verge of a sellers market as supply is not keeping up to demand, even though the pace of new home starts is well above pre-pandemic levels. Basically, more people in a position to acquire a property are converging on the Prairies as TD forecasts Alberta will lead the nation in growth this year with Saskatchewan close behind.
