Over the years there have been more than a few studies and surveys showing that Saskatchewan people are big savers, that we’re generous and we tend to punch above our weight in the giving department.
In a report from the Fraser Institute that looks at donations in sixty four jurisdictions across North America says maybe we need to take another look and update our mythology.
We were the biggest savers in the country back in 1982, but a lot of water has gone under the bridge since we hit that milestone, and it’s the same thing with giving – it turns out we are not the most generous with giving our money.
We rank number four in Canada right now in terms of the percentage of us who have claimed a donation on our tax return, and interestingly twelve of the bottom fourteen donors in North America are Canadian.
Utah takes top spot on that one and north of the forty ninth, Manitoba has the highest percentage of donors, Albertans give the most.
Just over twenty percent of the tax filers in this province claimed donation, the average gift? Just over $1875.
