For the fifth consecutive year, Saskatchewan finds itself at the top of the mining industry’s list of best places to invest in Canada — and we are number three in the world.
The Fraser Institute compiles this ranking each year, weighing public policy environments around the world as well as the mining potential offered by the geology in those jurisdictions. The role of government is given a 40 per cent weighting and the natural blessings of mineral potential represent 60 per cent of the findings.
Saskatchewan ranked third this year behind Utah and Nevada on the global index and first among the provinces. Canada, as a whole did pretty well, taking half the top 10 rankings. Saskatchewan, though, has been the standout on this one – taking top place in Canada for five years running and bouncing between second and third globally.
This year Utah vaulted to the top after making rule changes that were viewed favorably by the industry as it moved up from eighthplace.
On the geology measure, Saskatchewan has been as high as number two but we now stand in seventh place.
