Saskatchewan physician highlighted for contributions to children’s healthcare

The whole idea behind economic development is growth in an economy to attract population, investment and a better quality of life. It can also come in many forms, including a particularly potent one — health care.

That was emphasized in the past few days when the Marquis Who’s Who ranked a Saskatchewan pediatrician as one of nine people in the world worthy of special recognition.

Dr. Laurentiu Givelichian, or Dr. G as he is known, was highlighted in the Wall Street Journal this month. He was head of pediatrics in this province for the better of a decade and a key player in seeing the Children’s Hospital become a reality.

Not only did he attract more than two dozen physicians to the province and help raise money for the project, he is a force in improving the quality of life for children, particularly in the North as a global leader in remote healthcare delivery.

He also was pivotal in securing a neonatal intensive care unit in Prince Albert and today is working on a private pilot’s license so he can visit more northern communities in person.
