Saskatchewan’s economy is back on track for creating more than enough jobs for all the new residents moving here.
In July, the workforce grew by 6,100 as employers added 6,700 new jobs in the month. Almost all of them were full-time.
Saskatchewan was one of the few places in the country where job creation remains so robust. Overall, the country lost 2,800 jobs at a time when payrolls in this province were still growing.
The national picture has one other prominent feature. Private sector employers shed 42,000 positions while the public sector added almost the same number 41,000.
Here in Saskatchewan, July’s 6,700 new jobs bring the total for the year that ended last month to 25,000. For comparison purposes, that’s more jobs than in a city the size of Moose Jaw.
Saskatchewan’s participation rate increased last month as well.
In fact, the only negative number in the July jobs report for this province was unemployment – the total number of unemployed people fell and so did the overall unemployment rate.
