Saskatchewan’s economic growth pegged at 5.7 per cent in 2022

It has been said that if you took all the economists in the world and laid them end to end, they would reach no conclusion.

Over the course of the last year, we’ve had a slew of reports and forecasts projecting how the various provincial and national economies were performing. But each year at this time we get a decision on who was right.

StatsCan has just issued what amounts to the final judgement on the performance of our economy in 2022. And, carrying off the first-place ribbon for growth is Saskatchewan. We officially came in at 5.7 per cent last year, half a point ahead of second-place Alberta.

With this we also know which bank’s economics unit had the most accurate tally or reading of the tea leaves. It goes to RBC this time around and they are also the ones suggesting Saskatchewan will retain its first place standing this year.

They are about the only ones saying we will stay ahead of our neighbour to the West which is generally the crowd favorite among the economists at the roster of chartered banks.
