Make that two years in a row that Saskatchewan turned in the best growth performance of all provincial economies.
It happened last year and our province will continue to lead the country as we proceed through 2023.
That’s the theme of the latest quarterly report card on growth issued by the team at RBC Royal Bank. They ranked Saskatchewan in first place last year with a 5.8 per cent expansion rate. That was a point-and-a-half higher than any other province.
And they project a further two per cent this year, again the strongest in the nation as the global slowdown grips all regions.
Along with strength in the commodity sector, which is enjoyed added wind in its sails due to sanctions reducing competition from Russia and Belarus, we are attracting higher than average levels of capital investment.
In fact, the 21 per cent increase in investment we’re seeing is higher than any other part of the country and a key contributor in attracting population which is another source of fuel for our growth.
The lion’s share of that fresh capital is flowing into mine expansion, notably the Jansen project.
