It is one of the best business bounce back stories of the pandemic. When the lockdown was instituted in March of last year, many parts of the economy took a tumble. Some recovered quickly – the so-called ‘V’ recovery – while others struggled to regain their footing.
Among those that did rebound strongly was manufacturing and nowhere was that more evident than in Saskatchewan.
A little over a year after the pandemic was declared we can now look back and see just how the various parts of the economy navigated the choppy waters of working from home, closures and distancing. So we now have some context and trending data.
The June figures on sales and inventory levels have just been released showing a national gain of 2-percent for the month of June and 20-percent for the year. Here in Saskatchewan, though, the numbers were far more dramatic….the month-over-month improvement was 7.5% which is the best in the country and rebound compared a year earlier was more than 60-percent…again at the top of the national figures.
