RBC Royal Bank’s economics team has been digging through the numbers.
It has identified a movement towards ‘resort’ communities.
Basically, more and more people are shunning the big urban environment for the slower pace and intimacy of smaller centres.
When they say ‘resort’ communities, they aren’t necessarily talking about towns on the banks of a lake or even those in cottage country.
They include communities such as Squamish and Kelowna in BC or Collingwood in Ontario are on their list as is Steinbach, Manitoba.
The pandemic has changed our view of the world. These smaller centres are now the fastest growing communities in Canada, not the big cities which had previously dominated the fast-track rankings.
