The narrative on Saskatchewan’s economic outlook is taking a decidedly upbeat perspective.
The latest to add their voice to the chorus is the Conference Board of Canada. As the most recent arrival, they are bringing the most bullish outlook.
The Conference Board of Canada has projected Saskatchewan’s growth this year to hit 7.9 per cent. That is the highest of all the provinces. It’s also a signal that as new analysis is completed, the story is one of accelerating economic expansion.
Most of the other forecasts have Saskatchewan in second spot behind Alberta. But the Conference Board of Canada Board not only has this province at the top, it is 1.3 per cent higher than second-place Alberta so the pace of acceleration here appears to be rising.
As the other forecasters have pointed out, Saskatchewan’s fortunes are largely tied to commodities and those have experienced rising demand as well as price, which augers well for our income levels. The war in Eastern Europe, which provides many of the same commodities as Saskatchewan, has interrupted supply chains, directing added attention to this province as a replacement supplier.
