Value of Saskatchewan farm production up year over year

Saskatchewan farmers took in nearly one-quarter of all the cash receipts generated by the ag sector in Canada last year.

The country’s total production was valued at just under $100 billion. Saskatchewan accounted for $22 billion of that. It also represented a seven per cent increase over the previous year.

But, while we have the most farmland in the nation, we were not the biggest contributors to farm cash receipts last year. That title went to Alberta with about half a billion more than us, likely because cattle receipts rose by 25 per cent last year compared to 2022.

Canola was the big revenue generator. At $13 billion, it brought in more than half the total farm receipts and we represent a large portion of that output. Wheat was the second biggest crop in terms of cash income.
