If necessity, they say, is the mother of invention then it has been a long time since we’ve been in such an inventive environment as we are right now.
Businesses are still working out the new order – the one where some can play and some can’t. Others restructure or adopt new ways of doing things like working from home or remotely. Basically, we’re all trying to figure this out.
But one truism that can be relied upon in this environment is that a crisis is a terrible thing to waste. That sounds a bit harsh, but what it really means is that all of us have reason to be motivated to try something new. Fresh ideas find fertile ground at times like this when we really aren’t sure where the road leads us or how long it will take to get there.
Given the chaotic environment, this is a great time for leaders to advance new approaches, to encourage their team members to propose alternative ways or new angles and to engage customers and suppliers to improve efficiency.
